Today as I was walking by a small pond on Easy Street in Danby, an American Bittern flew in. I watched him for about 10 minutes. At times I lost sight of him because he assumed his alarm position and really blended with the vegetation. His black streak was very prominent. I never would have spotted him if I hadn't seen him fly in. He flew off and never made a sound. Too bad I really wanted to hear his pump call. Very exciting and a first for me.
